Vietnam – Laos – China overland motorcycle tour is one of the best overland motorcycle tours of Vietnam, Laos and China with limited of time, this is the best choice for you to experience South Asia. The Vietnam – Laos – China overland tour will start from the low land of Hanoi and ride over to Laos on the mountain pass then enter China by following the Old Tea Horse Road riding up to the Himalayan mountain ranges. The tour will discover the most challenging motorcycle road in Asia, covering over 4,000km (2,485 miles) the motorcycle road ride up to the ancient town of Lijiang and Dali, ride the Bai Ma (White Horse Passes) and the Tiger Leaping Gorge then continue our motorcycle trip to Kun Ming the Spring City capital of Yunnan province of China before we ride back to Vietnam at the border of Hekou/Lao Cai border checkpoint and back to Hanoi for the boat trip to Ha Long Bay.

Day 1. Hanoi Arrival

Your local tour guide with meet you at Noi Bai international airport and transfer to the hotel in the old quarter of Hanoi, you will be amazing with the Hanoi traffic with cars, motorbikes, cyclo and learn from how they deal with the traffic. Free at leisure and prepare for the trip by the late afternoon at our motorcycle garage. Welcome dinner in a local restaurant and last briefing about the trip, get to know the traffic rules of Vietnam, Laos and China.

Day 2. Hanoi – Na Meo – Xam Nua, 340km

Our trucks will move all the BMW motorcycles out of Hanoi for 80km to avoid the traffic.

7:00 AM our support vehicle will come to your hotel and load all your luggage to carry through our overland motorcycle tour from today to Laos, China until we get back to Hanoi again.

7:10 AM our private bus will come to transfer you out of the crazy traffic to the meeting point where all the motorcycles are waiting for us there.

9:30 AM after the last coffee, the motorcycle tour starts from a small village in North of Vietnam and ride in mountain road to Mai Chau villages.

Today we will have picnic lunch with famous traditional cuisine of Vietnam called Bun Cha at the beautiful opened road next to Ma River prepared by our cook. In the afternoon we arrive to Na Meo/Nam Soi border checkpoints. It may take up to an hour to process all the paperwork then we will ride to Vieng Xai – the old head quarter of Pha Thet Laos to visit this historic site before we ride in mountain pass to Sam Nuea.

Day 3. Sam Nuea – Phonsavan, 240km

After the breakfast in a local restaurant we will drive on the National Road No 1 with windy mountain passes and many chances to stop in local ethnic villages. We will take a small windy road over the mountain to Phonsavan. Check in to the hotel then drive to the Plain of Jars site 2 (Plain of Jars is recognized as the World Heritage Site by UNESSCO) to visit the site with many of unknown Jars then return to the Hotel.

Day 4. Phonsavan – Luang Prabang, 260km

Ride the most beautiful motorcycle road in Laos with high mountain passes to Luang Prbang, the old capital city of Laos with nowadays mix architecture of Laotian and French colonial beside many ancient Wats (pagoda) so when we arrive to the Hotel it is free time to explore the city on your own or just enjoy Beer Laos on the side of Me Kong River.

Day 5. Luang Prabang – Luang Nam Tha, 300km

In early morning you can get up early to experience how the local culture of Laos by attending the Almsgiving Ceremony and morning market in town.

After the breakfast at the hotel, today the motorcycle road following the Me Kong and Nam Ou river heading up the high mountain with winding passes, the trip will ride through many ethnic villages.

Day 6. Luang Nam Tha – Boten – Jing Hong, 230km

After the breakfast we ride to Boten/Mohan border checkpoints with number of trucks and buses so we should leave early in the morning. After the immigration to China we drive our motorcycles to Mengla County for motorcycle inspection then we continue to ride for about 2 and half hour more to Jing Hong City – the capital city of Xishuangbanna – with mainly Tai ethnic minority, this is also considered as the motherland of Thai/Tai ethnic.

Day 7. Jing Hong – Lincang, 450km

After the breakfast at the hotel, we continue our trip with the Highway to Pu’er, It’s famous with the organic tea and device with the Black Tea in Lincang then turn off to a small road to Jinggu then follow the spectacular mountain road to Lincang – the homeland of Chinese Tea Culture.

Day 8. Lincang – Lijiang, 460km

Depart for Lijiang with a quick lunch stop by Me Kong river, the road trip my motorcycle to Lijiang today is one of the highlight day with amazing scenery of the mountain view, in the afternoon we continue to drive to Lijiang one of the top 3 most beautiful ancients town of China.

Day 9. Lijiang Free at leisure

Lijiang is the World Heritage site, it was recognized by UNESSCO since 1997, it is famous for its architecture that blends elements from several cultures. The former trade town on the Tea Horse Road since the earlier time. The town also possesses an ancient water supply system of great complexity and ingenuity.

Today it’s free time to discover this city on your own and relax from the motorcycle seat.

Day 10. Lijiang – Shangri La, 280km

Today we will explore the third deepest gorge in the world, the Tiger Leaping Gorge. Motorcycle is the best way to explore this part of China, we will ride through the Gorge and arrive at Haba Snow Mountain and have lunch in a local family guesthouse then drive to Shangri-La or Gyelthang, this is where the Tibetan and Chinese worlds meet. Until today, this is the Northernmost open point for foreign travelers in Yunnan. Zongdian is now the modern town at the edge of the vast Tibetan plateau.

Day 11. Shangri-La – Bai Ma Pass – Shangri-La, 260km

After the breakfast at the hotel, we will take the road G 214 up North to the Bai Ma (White Hourse) Mountain, which is 4,250m high. Enjoy free wheeling your motorcycle with many stops and then in the afternoon we ride down to the Yangtse valley and follow the river to drive back to Shangri-La. One we arrive to the Hotel, we will visit the Tibetan Lamasery in Shangri-La.

Day 12. Shangri-La – Dali, 320km

We wind our way southwards over the modern version of the Ancient Tea Horse Road to Dali, Yunnan province’s second most importance city and it’s also one of China’s most historic. The Bai Kingdom and the Kingdom of Dali were both center here between 8th and 12th Century. In the mid 1800’s there was a major Muslim rebellion that shook the entire region all the way down to Thailand. Repercussion of this conflict were felt well into the early of 1900’s. More than a million people were killed in Yunnan province alone but today Dali is a peaceful city and this historic walled city is well preserved. We lodge in the Old Quarter tonight so the early arrival will provide you more time to wandering around.

Day 13. Dali – Kunming, 330km

Today we will take the highway to ride to Kunming, the capital city of Yunnan province, we should try to arrive to the city early so that we may have time to explore the city or just relax. You also can take a bus trip to visit the Stone Forest on your own.

Day 14. Kunming – Hekou/Lao Cai – Sapa, 435km

We will take the highway to ride straight to Hekou, clear custom and enter to Vietnam at Lao Cai then we ride to Sapa for the night.

Day 15. Sapa – Hanoi, 430km

Today we will driver over the Tram Ton Pass with the beautiful scenery of Fansipan Mount then follow the road No 32 to follow the Hoang Lien mountain ranges down to Nghia Lo for lunch. After lunch we continue to ride to Thu Cuc, total 300km then we will leave our motorcycle there, get on private bus and transfer back to Hanoi. All motorcycles will be transferred by trucks.

Day 16. Hanoi – Hai Phong – Cat Ba, private bus, Hydrofoil

In the morning, our private bus will come to the hotel and transfer to Hai Phong Harbor to catch the Hydrofoil to get to Cat Ba island. One you arrive to Cat Ba you will be transfer to the traditional Junk and begin to explore Ha Long Bay on our own way, spend the night on boat

Day 17. Cat Ba – Hai Phong – Hanoi, Hydrofoil, private bus

After the breakfast we continue our cruising trip in Ha Long Bay and have lunch on boat, after lunch you will be transferred to the Hydrofoil for the way back to Hai Phong. 4:00 PM our private bus will transfer you back to the hotel

Day 18. Hanoi departure

Free at leisure or discover Hanoi on your own then you will be transfer back to Noi Bai Airport for your flight home.
